8 Healthy Habits for Sustainable Weight Loss (That Aren’t Very Exciting)
Achieving better health doesn’t have to be splashy, expensive, or dramatic.
In fact, it usually happens the other way around.
It’s the small, ordinary choices we make over and over again that quietly shape our health.
So I thought I’d pull back the curtain.
Spoiler alert: it’s not glamorous.
The Healthy Habits I Practice Almost Every Day
1. I create boundaries around screens.
I avoid social media, email, and TV until I’ve gotten outside—even if it’s just a quick trip to the chicken coop to take care of my girlies.
That morning light helps regulate my circadian rhythm, which sets me up for better sleep later.
2. I drink water. Lots of it.
At least 2 litres a day, usually closer to 3.
Not flavoured water. Not energy drinks.
It’s one of the simplest—and most overlooked—healthy habits for better energy, sustainable weight loss, and long-term weight maintenance.
3. I don’t snack.
I eat three balanced meals a day and avoid nibbling or mindless grazing.
For me, having structure around meals helps prevent eating out of habit instead of hunger.
4. I eat green stuff every day.
Leafy greens and colourful vegetables are packed with nutrients that support every system in the body.
I make sure that half to three-quarters of my plate is vegetables.
5. I cook most of my own food.
About 85–90% of what I eat is prepared by me—and that’s intentional.
Cooking at home gives me control over ingredients and makes healthy eating much easier.
6. I read ingredient lists.
If the ingredient list looks more like a chemistry experiment than food, it stays on the shelf.
Whole foods are still hard to beat—and they’re what our bodies were designed to eat.
7. I don’t rely on drive-throughs or takeout.
If I’m heading into the city for the day, I pack my own meals.
Do we order pizza or enjoy a meal out sometimes?
Of course.
But it’s the exception—not the routine.
8. I move every day.
Some days it’s a walk.
Some days it’s gardening.
Some days it’s a few push-ups between clients.
It doesn’t have to be perfect.
It just has to happen.
The Secret to Sustainable Health Isn’t Exciting
None of these healthy habits are exciting or revolutionary.
And that’s exactly the point.
Real health is built through consistency—not intensity or perfection.
The women who create lasting change aren’t usually the ones chasing the newest cleanse, supplement, or diet.
They’re the ones who slowly build healthy habits that become part of who they are.
Those little “boring” choices may not feel like they’re making a difference today, but give them a few months—or a few years—and they become life-changing.
