The Tiny Habit That Can Change Your Whole Day (And Your Health)
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do… is simplify.
Because the amount of noise out there around nutrition and lifestyle is enough to send even the most grounded woman into a tailspin. It’s no wonder so many people feel stuck before they even start.
That’s exactly why I focus my energy where it gives me the biggest bang for my buck.
The Power of Small Daily Habits
There’s a concept in Atomic Habits that I love.
It shows how a single small decision can quietly set the tone for everything that follows—like a fork in the road.
(I’ve included the visual below)

“The difference between a good day and a bad day is often a few productive and healthy choices made at decisive moments. Each one is like a fork in the road, and these choices stack up throughout the day and can ultimately lead to very different outcomes.”

My Biggest “Fork in the Road” Habit: A Healthy Morning Routine
For me, it’s my morning routine—because it nudges me in the right direction, again and again.
Here’s what that looks like for me (take what resonates, leave the rest):
1. A Consistent Wake-Up Time
I set a recurring alarm and keep it fairly consistent. My body loves routine, and it seems to make everything else easier.
2. Water Before Coffee
About 500 ml before caffeine.
If you’re interested in why “front-loading” water is important, read THIS.
3. Read Before I Scroll
I resist looking at screens until I’ve been outside.
I always have an inspirational book that I read as I enjoy my coffee.
Starting your day with news or social media is like jolting your nervous system with a cattle prod—not exactly conducive to calm and focus.
4. A Few Minutes of Journaling
When life gets busy, a few minutes of journaling helps me stay focused and keep my priorities straight.
Some prompts I come back to:
- What am I most grateful for right now?
- What would make today a great day?
- What do I want to prioritize today?
5. Get Outside
A short walk with Sully (non-negotiable according to him).
This is my version of a walking meditation. I deliberately come back to one of my senses when my mind wanders (which it always does).
6. A Balanced Breakfast
After my walk, I aim for a meal with protein, fiber, healthy fats, probiotics, and vegetables.
If you need inspiration, I’ve shared ideas HERE.
Your Routine Might Look Different (And That’s Okay)
This is my routine—yours will look different.
If you’re not a morning person, your biggest “fork in the road” might happen in the evening.
Better sleep → better energy → better choices the next day.
Different rhythm. Same principle.
The Bottom Line: Small Habits, Big Results
You don’t need to overhaul your entire life.
You just need to identify your “fork in the road” moment—the small daily habit that makes the next good choice easier.
That’s where real, sustainable change happens.
I’m Curious…

Drop it in the comments or reach out—I’d love to hear what’s working for you.
Because the habits that seem small are often the ones that change everything.
