Why You Might Not Have a Discipline Problem (You Might Have a Life Problem)
Why Spring Always Reminds Me to Slow Down
Spring has never really been my season.
Every year, I know it’s a time when I need to pull out all of my self-care tools and be extra intentional about how I’m supporting myself.
This year was no different.
I was diligent about my sleep.
I built extra rest into my weekends.
I nourished myself extra well—plenty of variety, probiotic foods, greens, liver, and very little junk.
I scheduled regular exercise.
I prioritized stress management, journaled regularly, and made a conscious effort to incorporate more micro-resets into my days.
What Is a Micro-Reset? (And Why Your Nervous System Loves Them)
A micro-reset is a brief, intentional pause that helps interrupt stress patterns and bring you back into the present moment.
For me, they look like intentional moments where I step out of my spinny, hamster-wheel thoughts and come back to one of my senses.
✨ Sometimes it’s as simple as washing my hands deliberately—feeling the water, noticing the sensations, smelling the soap.
✨ Sometimes it’s a short pause between tasks. A few deep breaths before moving onto the next thing.
✨ Mindful eating is another beautiful micro-reset—coming back to flavours, textures, and temperature. Actually being with your meal instead of inhaling it while multitasking.
Anything that brings you back to the present moment signals safety to your nervous system.
It reminds your body that all is well.
And these tiny moments matter.
When we move through our days constantly rushing, multitasking, and overriding our own needs, our bodies can get stuck in a low-grade stress response. Over time, that can affect everything—our energy, digestion, mood, focus, and immune resilience.
Micro-resets help regulate the nervous system, lower stress, and create small moments of recovery throughout the day.
Tiny, simple… but powerful.
Even When You’re Doing “All the Right Things”
And yet… despite doing all of the things, despite keeping all of the damn balls in the air, I crashed.
When my immune system gets cranky, it tends to let me know by producing big, painful cold sores.
I can go years without getting them.
This spring, I sprouted several.
Did I feel a little betrayed by my body?
For a moment, yes.
But then I remembered something I’m constantly reminding my ladies of:
We often underestimate our need for rest while wildly overestimating our capacity to hold it all.
Your Symptoms Might Be Trying to Tell You Something
Symptoms are not always signs that your body is failing you.
Sometimes they’re messages.
Invitations to reassess.
To ask:
- What needs to shift?
- What needs to be let go of?
- What actually deserves my energy right now?
Sometimes our bodies whisper before they shout.
The question is: are we listening?
If You Can’t Find Time to Prioritize Your Health…
Because if you constantly feel like you can’t find time to prioritize your health… you probably don’t have a discipline problem.
You may have a life problem.
It’s our job to design a life where our health is no longer the thing that gets sacrificed.
Where rest is not a reward.
Where nourishment is not optional.
Where caring for ourselves becomes part of the structure—not something squeezed into the leftover scraps of time and energy.
Phewww… that’s the work, isn’t it?
