3 Simple Shifts to Improve Metabolism, Energy, and Overall Well-Being
If you want to support metabolism, healthy weight, energy, and overall well-being, here are three simple shifts you can start this week—no extremes required.
1️⃣ Eat Foods Closer to Their Natural State
The more a food is refined or tinkered with, the more likely it is to work against your body and contribute to inflammation.
When choosing between versions of the same food, go for the least processed option.
A helpful rule of thumb:
👉 Keep the number of unpronounceable words on the ingredient list to a minimum.
Also, beware of vague ingredients like artificial flavours or artificial colours.
(The image below lists the ingredients that make up just one artificial strawberry flavour commonly found in strawberry yogurt.)

2️⃣ Stop Fearing Fat — Start Choosing Better Fats
Healthy fats play an important role in:
- satiety
- hormone regulation
- brain health
- lowering inflammation
Focus on healthier fat sources:
- olive oil
- butter
- organic coconut oil
- eggs (with the yolk)
- nuts and seeds
- avocados
Limit highly processed vegetable oils:
- margarine
- canola oil
- corn oil
- soybean oil
- palm oil
Highly processed oils—like those shown in the image below—are widely used in processed foods and are contributing to chronic inflammation for many people.

3️⃣ Watch Your Inner Dialogue
Critical self-talk and perfectionism activate stress in the body, which can keep you stuck in the very patterns you’re trying to move away from.
Mindset matters more than most people realize when it comes to food choices, digestion, and long-term health habits.

Keep It Simple and Listen to Your Body
The more I learn, the more convinced I am that simple is better. Tuning in to your body’s signals and choosing foods that are less processed and less manipulated will always serve you better than following the latest trend.
